The Inbetweener

This time of year can be a funny one. The temperature has dropped and although summer (brief as it was), seems a distant memory, few of us are ready to take the plunge into autumn/winter dressing. September is in no doubt, an 'inbetweener' when it comes to clothes.

With this in mind, we have presented a selection of items from our website that will give you inspiration on what to wear whilst we are waiting for winter to properly introduce itself:

And for when the temperature really starts to drop, this coat will do a great job of getting you through the big chill...

The Polo Shirt

The polo shirt can be dated back to 1929, when French 7-time Grand Slam tennis champion, René Lacoste, decided that traditional tennis attire was too uncomfortable. Instead, he designed a white, short-sleeved shirt with an unstarched, flat, protruding collar and buttoned placket.

In 1927, Lacoste added a crocodile emblem to the left breast of his shirts in reference to his nickname 'The Crocodile,' which was given to him by the American press.

By the 1930s, the polo world had fully embraced the shirt and over the next two decades, the term 'polo shirt' came into force.

Despite becoming increasingly popular with golfers, the shirt manage to maintain its equestrian association following the founding of the hugely popular Polo Ralph Lauren brand in 1967.

Today, the polo shirt epitomises the term, 'smart casual.' The collar makes it smart, but its overall style is less restricting and more comfortable than a formal shirt. It smartens up jeans, looks classic with chinos and looks great when worn with a v-neck jumper.

For inspiration, take a look at our fashicon collection of polo shirts and interpret this classic style into a look that you can call your own.

Spotlight on Farah Vintage

The Farah brand first came on the scene in the 1920s and reached cult status some years later in the 1970s.

The trademark Farah slack became an instant hit with Britain’s youth culture for its slim, tailored structure and stain resistant technology and the brand soon became the must-have label throughout the 1980s. As fashion savvy groups such as the ‘mods’ and the ‘skins’ began to crave the designs and incorporate the garments into their own style, Farah clothes began to represent elitism and generated a sense of respect to those who wore them.

Today, the Farah label continues to represent heritage and legacy as a new generation are attracted to the brand’s history and individual sense of cool as they rediscover the look for themselves.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and the G9

There is only one true G9, and that is THE original Harrington Jacket by Baracuta.

baracuta_logo

Baracuta and movies have always gone hand in hand. This iconic fashion brand is synonymous with movie stars on and off screen.

The Baracuta G9 is once again getting its close up in front of the camera; this time in the remake of the classic film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Strong.

The G9 earned the nickname Harrington because it was worn by the character Rodney Harrington (played by Ryan ONeal) in the 1960s television programme Peyton Place.

With the imminent release of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, the Harrington is no doubt going to get a new generation of admirers once more.

Classic King's of Cool like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Steve McQueen all loved the G9 so much that they wore it off screen too. This helped promote the fashion brand further because not only did people want to be the characters in the movies, they also wanted to emulate the stars playing them shooting the Harrington to new heights.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

The new James Bond film (Bond 23) will also be released 26th October 2012, and everyone knows that Daniel Craig is a big fan of the Baracuta Harrington G9.

So it looks like this iconic fashion brand is not only here to stay but will keep its place at the top of men's fashion for many more years to come.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is released on 16th September in the UK and 18th November in the U.S.A.

The white dress shirt can be worn with so many different looks.

Fashicon have put together a list of essential fashion items and looks that champion the classic white dress shirt.

Junk de Luxe Classic White Shirt

Classic White Shirt

It's kind of a given that this has been neglected by some men down to the fact that this is known as a more formal fashion item but the classic white shirt as you will see has gone way beyond its formal past.

Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig works this formal white dress shirt in perfect style, opening up the top two buttons to give it a more casual flair but still looking very sharp in the process.

This look would work well with a straight leg chino style trouser or tucked in slim jeans and shirt out with straight jeans for a total casual look.

Farah Vintage

The classic white shirt is an ideal choice for any summer party or lunch date.

Wear it with some shorts such as Bermuda Shorts like these by Original Penguin.

Original Penguin

Brad Pitt is the perfect example of someone who wears the classic white dress shirt in smart and casual styles.

Another style addition to the classic white shirt, staying with the casual look is the jacket or cardigan.

The classic white shirt was made for the Baracuta Original Harrington G9 jacket

Steve McQueen really made this look that every man should try to replicate, because you're pretty much guaranteed to look cool the second you put these two items together.
