100 Years of Fila

This month Fila celebrate their 100th Anniversary!

Align Left

The iconic Italian label Fila was started by two Brothers who originally made fabrics and underwear.

Fila designs have been responsible for transforming the look and performance of tennis sportswear, which has nicely spilled over into street ware.

With Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships also celebrating their 125th year in 2011, it’s set to be an iconic year for tennis and fashion.

Kim Clijsters has sadly had to withdraw from the 2011 Wimbledon championships due to an ankle injury. She will be greatly missed from the tournament and we all wish her well for the rest of the season.

The One, the Only Original Penguin!

1950's America was an age of progression, post war, pre swinging 60's allowed for the birth of Rock 'n' Roll and new developments in fashion. When you think of Icon's, this is the era that really springs to mind.

In 1955 Minnesota, Original Penguin came to life from a slightly drunken sales trip to NYC.

The 55 was born!

Original Penguin has been worn in the past by icons such as Clint Eastwood, Frank Sinatra and the golf legend Arnold Palmer.

Original Penguin is still going strong today and is worn by current film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Brad Pitt and Robert Patterson to name just a few.

Get genuine Original Penguin delivered to your door via Fashicon the leading online fashion store for men. Bringing your designer brands at amazing prices.

Baracuta G9 The Original Harrington

Fashion may change, styles may come and go but when something is this good, it will be around forever. The Original Harrington G9 is as much a part of fashion today as it was in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's.

The Original Harrington G9 jacket by Baracuta is still going strong. Style savvy folk have been donning this iconic garment since 1937!

This fashion icon has been loved through the ages and just keeps on being revived. There is no substitution for the Original Harrington G9 jacket by Baracuta, nothing else comes close to the real deal.

During the 1980's there were plenty attempts at recreating this legendary garment; you could see them in all the 'cheap' clothing stores down Carnaby Street and all across the market squares of Great Britain. Oh the travesty!

Thankfully Carnaby Street has redeemed itself and now features shops that resemble the fashionista pull it had in the 60's and 70's. With shops such as Ben Sherman, Fred Perry and Lambretta nestled in between new labels like G-Star, Diesel and Pretty Green; Men's fashion certainly has a very bright future.

If it's good enough for James Bond (AKA: Daniel Craig) then it's good enough for me.

You can find the Original Harrington G9 jacket in many places, but there's one place where you can get it for a legendary price and delivered straight to your doorstep!

Purchase your Baracuta Harrington G9 jacket today and turn yourself into a Fashicon.

Aussie Kim in Fila Clothing in US Open

Aussie Kim claims 4th Slam
29 January 2011, Melbourne Park, Australia

Having won the US Open a total of three times, Kim Clijsters has now increased her tally of Grand Slam titles to 4, and her career titles to 41. Clijsters defeated Li Na in the final of The Australian Open, in Melbourne, 3-6 6-3 6-3. It was a close match, and Li Na looked to be getting the better of Kim at 6-3 3-2 up, but Kim then picked up her game to win six consecutive games. Clijsters had lost to Li in the final of the lead-up event in Sydney, but Kim’s experience of Grand Slam Finals played its part.

The Australian Open women’s final was the most wated tennis match ever, with over 135 million viewers watching the match in China alone.

Clijsters applauded the crowd in her on-court speech: “I finally feel like you guys can call me Aussie Kim, because I won the title. I’ve been coming here for many years and you guys have always been amazing. It helps so much.”

Kim has now won the last four Grand Slam finals that she has featured in, having lost the first four. She will rise from No.3 to No.2 in the new rankings, the highest ranking she has held since her comeback to the WTA tour. The victory also takes her career prize money to $23,686,916, and she is the current holder of two of the four Grand Slam titles.

Throughout this year’s Australian Open, Kim has been wearing an outfit that was inspired by another Fila champion – Australia’s Evonne Goolagong-Cawley. Evonne won the Australian Open four times, which makes it even more fitting that Kim won her first Australian Open title wearing that particular outfit.
Fila has also been worn by 2 other Australian Open women’s champions -Monica Seles and Jennifer Capriati, who both won the event twice.

Novak Djokovic wears Sergio Tacchini for Autralian Open

We’re not saying that Sergio Tacchini tennis wear will make you a better tennis player, but Novak Djokovic wears it, and he’s pretty good.

NOVAK Djokovic may have enhanced his status as one of the game’s finest hardcourt players, but the aspiring No. 1 and winner of two of the past four Australian Opens also believes better results are imminent at the two grand slams where he is yet to reach a final.

”Hardcourt is my favourite surface. Two finals in US Open and two finals here. It’s obvious; results are showing everything. But, still, I feel I can do well at French Open and Wimbledon,” the world No. 3 said after Sunday night’s crushing 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 defeat of the No. 5, Andy Murray.

”I don’t want to stop here. Definitely I want to keep my body healthy, fit and ready for some more challenges to come. I feel that I have a good game for all the surfaces. I have proven that in the past.”

Original Penguin Roots

In November 2008, Original Penguin opened up its flagship UK store. Situated in the heart of Covent Garden, the space offers a candid reflection of the brand’s heritage – a reincarnation of the post-war Americana culture Munsingwear’s Original Penguin had so been at the heart of.

Subtlety and simplicity course through the decor, and indeed the clothes – rosewood sits starkly against the chrome fittings and mid-century furnishings, framed perfectly by the bespoke wallpaper, illuminated by the statement vintage lighting. Welcome to the 70’s playboy golfer’s pad – a fine mix of kitsch patterns and sleek wooden fixtures, walls suitably adorned with rows of effortlessly stylish Original Penguin garments.

Since its debut in 2003, Original Penguin has been synonymous with producing clean cut, traditional menswear – proud to be a staple part of the British man’s wardrobe. The flagship store houses though not only the Original Penguin’s men’s collection, shoes and accessories, but, for the first time in Europe, the children’s and womenswear collections as well.
