Original Pengiun

If a 100-year-old underwear factory in Minnesota seems an unconventional starting point for a fashion icon that has represented Americana since 1955 and is still worn all over the world today, blame Pete the Penguin. And perhaps a Whiskey or two.

Abbot Pederson was an ambitious salesman who worked for the Munsingwear undergarment factory in Minneapolis. On a sales trip to NYC in 1955, finding himself with some time to kill before a flight home, he decided to wait out his time in a local bar. Stumbling out to find a taxi stand, he took a wrong turn down a Manhattan street and found himself in front of a display of stuffed penguins in a taxidermist's window. Before he knew it, he had bought one of the penguins, named him Pete, and was soon enjoying cocktails with him on the flight back to Minneapolis.

At some point during the flight, Pederson's enthusiasm got the better of him -- and Pete the Penguin's head was knocked off. A seductive stewardess whose attention Pederson had been enjoying throughout the flight gently helped him remove his tie, then wrapped it around the penguin's neck. As she did so, she joked that such a lucky, dapper bird surely deserved to be immortalized -- maybe even embroidered on a shirt similar to the one Pederson was wearing. Little did she know...

So head over to Fashicon.co.uk to check out what pengiuns on shirts we have to offer!

Sergio Tacchini at Fashicon!

Sergio Tacchini is THE gift brand this Christmas! Sergio Tacchini is an italian sportswear brand founded in 1966 by Sergio Tacchini, an international tennis champion.

During the eighties, Sergio Tacchini explored new markets such as ski, golf, basketball, Formula 1 and sailing. During 1980 to 1990, Sergio Tacchini expanded more and added more product categories and moving into more clothing sectores.

In 1991, the company opened its first Sergio Tacchini mono-brand store in Turin, pioneering a new idea of sportswear retailing. A new managment team is currently in charge of re-launching the brand, with the aim of bringing it back to its original premium image.

Boxfresh at Fashicon!

In the late 80’s the youth culture of Britain had a number of genres all with their own distinct style, punks, new romantics, skinheads, goths and mods as for everyone else the choice of casual wear was limited. Roger Wade founded the Boxfresh Clothing brand in 1989 initially operating from a stall on Greenwich Market, the brand is first and foremost a British street brand.

The whole concept of streetwear is dressing from the trainers up and owes a lot to the early hip-hop scene in New York where for the first time trainers, singlets and tracksuits were being worn for fashion and not as sportswear. The name Boxfresh was borrowed from hip-hop speak and means ‘fresh out of the box’. Initially Wade sourced classic sports, college gear and work wear from the USA, and also began putting customised prints on t-shirts and sweatshirts for sale at the London markets.

By 1990 Boxfresh streetwear fashion was available in Bond of Soho, Duffer of St.George, American Classics and Oi Polloi in Manchester and Hip in Leeds. In 1992 Boxfresh were at the forefront of the craze for workwear fashion in Europe. Boxfresh today remains a force in British streetwear and urbanwear by sticking to their mission of being true to their roots. One of the most talented designers to create garments for Boxfresh is Zakee Shariff.

So what are you waiting for? Check out Boxfresh at Fashicon today!

Farah brings back memories?!?

Farah Vintage keeps getting it right with shirts great for smart/casual and great for play during autumn?!? At Fashicon.co.uk we bring you the stylish Farah Foster Shirt, Farah Vintage Merriweather Polo Shirt, Farah Vintage Godfrey Shirt and Farah Vintage Gibson Shirt.

Ask most guys who were teenagers in the mid 70’s to early 80’s and a smile creeps upon their faces as they recall their self-conscious years when they were fanatical about detail, obsessed with music and fashion and trying to make the cut in the playground?!?

At a time when the media was transfixed with the emergence of Punk, the Farah Slack was assimilated into British youth culture when a whole generation of young men created regional fashion trends.

Dressed in smart-casual clothing, the look spread and became firmly entwined within The Casual Scene, based on the Mods notion of secrecy and elitism.

These high fashion shirts from Fashicon are sure to be a hit with Soul Boys and Casuals alike?!?

Retro sports wear at Fashicon?!?

In the seventies the first coloured Sergio Tacchini collection made its appearance at Wimbledon when an unforgettable Jimmy Connors won the Wimbledon tournament?!?

In 1978 John McEnroe signs an 8-Year contract with this stylish clothing brand: Sergio Tacchini. By the 80's the sponsorship permits the brand to gain a placing on the international market.

The sub culture 'Casuals' have been infatuated with Sergio Tacchini since the 80's hence why some refer to Sergio Tacchini as an 80's casuals brand.

You can expect legendary Sergio Tacchini garments from Fashicon, including: Sergio Tacchini Polo Shirts, Sergio Tacchini Dallas Track Tops and Sergio Tacchini Fjord Track Tops.

The Italian sport brand is considered as one of the main retro brands around today. Fashicon.co.uk is proud to be an official authorised stockist of Sergio Tacchini?!?

Reliving the glory days with Fashicon?!?

Fashicon have heard many customers recounting just how much the casual era meant to them as it lit their first real passion towards branded clothing. Everyone offers up different memories and it is very clear that different areas bore many a differing casual. The modern casual truly does give Fila Vintage his stamp of approval?!?

One thing a lot of modern day followers have in common is that they all loved their childhood football, they aspired to wear sports-wear and was always up for a kick about at the park. Looking back these fans were young kids and easily influenced, but they already knew what scene they wanted to be part of?!?

Over the years Fila have produced many iconic pieces, including the Bjorn Borg styles. Fila Vintage painstakingly recreates these styles from the archives, producing a truly authentic retro collection.

The brands today are bridging the gaps between generations. The manufacturers and designers are utilizing different textures fabrics and colours to suit taste of different people.

Without this public appetite for past icons of fashion the Fila Vintage range may not have been issued. Therefore Fila Vintage is truly a product of the individuals will and desire rather than a corporate marketing scheme that tries to force the buyers hand into something they don’t particularly need or even want.

Fashicon is delighted to offer a fantastic range of Fila Vintage. Fila is firmly back in its rightful position as a global brand, which provides excellent quality and great style, with the Fila Vintage range. The revival of the classic Italian sport wear label Fila can be attributed to a number of issues. The overall shining light for Fila’s comeback is undoubtedly the Fila Vintage range. However the modern desire for nostalgia, retro and vintage also play a part along with popular cultures endorsement of the Fila name.

Fash-ICON or Fashion-VICTIM?!?

Fashion trends come and go, but to become a real fashicon you need to master the ability to pick and choose which fashion trends to follow. Some trends will make you look fabulous, while others with just make you look plain ridiculous – so choose your style with caution if you want to avoid looking like a fashion victim!?!

Luckily, here at Fashicon we can pick the wheat from the chaff for you as everything we stock has been carefully selected to bring you the best mix of the latest trends to ensure you always make a good impression?!?

This week we are passing our verdict on trousers worn so low practically the whole boxer short is on view – so look away now if you’re easily offended!?!

Now don’t get me wrong, showing an inch or so of Calvin Klein or Sexy Bastard is fine as these waistbands have been designed to be seen, but when you can see most of the boxer short and the jeans are defying gravity – this is most definitely not a good look!?!

It’s not a good look on the streets of New York, and it’s certainly not cool on the streets of London or anywhere else for that matter!?! In fact, to put this trend into context – it is actually as bad as seeing girls wearing thongs pulled up waaay too high at the back and showing the dreaded whale tail!?!

If you like the idea of keeping up to date with the very latest menswear trends, but would prefer not to be the laughing stock of the town when you go out – why not check out our website at www.fashicon.co.uk for some ideas?!?

In 1574 Queen Elizabeth I enforced some new Sumptuary Laws called the 'Statutes of Apparel'. Any silk of the colour of purple, cloth of gold tissue, nor fur of sables.

Are MEN the new shopaholics?!?

The stereotype of the female shopaholic could soon be an image of the past, as new research shows that Britain's 'online high street' is increasingly dominated by men?!? The latest findings from the PayPal UK Online Retail Report, conducted by Experian, indicate that over 12.9 million men shop online today compared with 10.3 million women, and almost twice as many men than women are joining the army of online shoppers each year?!?

Men are also spending more online than women. The average online spend over the last six months was £2,602 for men compared to £1,930 for women?!?

The PayPal report suggests that men were quicker to turn to the internet at the beginning of the economic downturn, looking to save money by shopping around, and to research products in more depth before buying them. Men love the quick and efficient nature of the internet?!?

Our impatience have helped drive a revolution in how websites are designed. Gone are the days of elaborate graphics that take an age to load - and drive customers away to better designed sites.

Visit www.fashicon.co.uk - AKA - “the site to look up to” and you will see exactly why men would rather shop on our site than spending a day hanging around the Mall?!? Fashicon brings you the latest fashion brands from across the world, together with a reliable and trusted service making Fashicon the preferred online destination for menswear?!?

7 Great moments in the history of Manhood?!?

35,000 BC: The first erotic cave art is made in Cussac, France

Beauty ideals have changed somewhat over the millennia. Even 37,000 years ago, Frenchmen were preoccupied with women, food, and clothing. Not much have changed since?!?

1516: Reinheitsgebot beer purity law

By banning “preservatives” like soot and poisonous mushrooms, the Reinheitsgebot paved the way for an era when the WORST thing that’ll happen from a few too many Becks is a wicked hangover?!?

1955: Chevy introduces the small-block V8

Fuel economy watch out, muscle cars are back. Much of the credit (or blame) for that goes to this engine. The motor has since been used in everything from Corvettes to pickups, meaning it’s the ultimate engine to fix up yourself?!?

1981: Jessica Alba is born

1987: Gordon Gekko makes a phone call

It was Michale Douglas, as Gordon Gekko in Wall Street, who first made the cell phone cool. Gekko used his bricklike Motorola DynaTAC to remind Bud Fox that “money never sleeps.” But it was that moment when a geeky novelty device became something a style-conscious guy could actually consider using?!?

1991: The dawn of the 16-bit gaming console

The 16-bit gaming console meant more intense game play, and even better scrolling that at least acknowledged the laws of physics?!? College and the 15 years that follow it would never be the same again..

2008: The birth of Fashicon

With the constant lack of branded fashion on the high street, Fashicon was born. Fashicon brings the latest fashion brands from across the world, together with a reliable and trusted service making the only online destination for menswear. Oh, and did we mention you can avoid the trip to the shops?!?

Make the Ladies stare for once?!?

The average man will spend almost 43 minutes a day staring at 10 different women. That adds up to 259 hours - almost 11 days - each year, making a total of 11 months and 11 days?!?

A year of their life is a long time to spend with your eyes fixed on the fairer sex and Fashicon is here to help you blokes gear up to make the women admire you a bit more..

A large amount of Brits have ended up in trouble with their partner over their roving eye and one in 10 have even split up with a partner because of it. But its not all bad, the staring has worked for some with 35 per cent of Brits saying they started a relationship with someone they eyed-up.

Take it from a woman, the top five places women look at men are: pubs/bars, shops, on public transport, supermarkets, at work.

Fashicon brings the you the latest fashion brands from across the world such as: Aem’Kei, Baracuta, Boxfresh, Calvin Klein, Farah Vintage, Fila Gold Collection, Fila Vintage, Gabicci Vintage, Junk de Luxe, K-Way, Modern Amusement, Original Penguin, Proper English, Sexy Bastard by Buckler and Villain.

Would the real FashICON please stand up?!?

It’s one of the great fashion mysteries of all time, but one that is set to continue for many years to come I’m sure, and one that will no doubt end up trapping more confused soles than ever under its spell. So what is this great fashion mystery – just why do designers create clothes that don’t actually look good on anyone?!?!

Fashion trends used to be dictated by royalty and the upper class, but for the present day the reverse is true, as designers now mostly look to the streets to find inspiration. Here in lies the problem – as what looks cool on your average 18 year old student, does not look quite so hot when worn by your average 45 year old software engineer who has no exercise routine to speak of and unlimited access to the vending machine!?!?

Take these designs for example; the outfits are only really appropriate if you are travelling from a cricket match to your eccentric grandmother’s tea party by scooter!?! I mean come on – do you know anybody that could pull off these outfits?!?! It is always worth remembering that choosing a designer brand is no guarantee of looking good!?!

Luckily, here at Fashicon we can pick the wheat from the chaff for you as everything we stock has been carefully selected by hand to bring you the best mix of the latest trends to ensure you always make a good impression!!

Why not take a look at our website at www.fashicon.co.uk – unless you have a fancy-dress party to attend of course!?!

Evolution of 'Trousers' ?!?

Fashicon found it quite humorous how words can reflect the values of society at a given moment in history. Focusing on ‘Trousers’, here is how the word evolved over 500 years:

breeks 1552- · strosser 1598-1637 · strouse 1600-1620 · brogues 1615-1845 · trouses 1679-1820 · trousers 1681- · inexpressibles 1790- · indescribables 1794-1837 · etceteras 1794-1843 · kickseys/kicksies 1812-1851 · pair of trousers 1814- · ineffables 1823-1867 · unmentionables 1823- · pantaloons 1825- · indispensables 1828- · unimaginables 1833 · innominables 1834/43 · inexplicables 1836/7 · unwhisperables 1837-1863 · sit-down-upons 1840-1844 · pants 1840- · sit-upons 1841-1857 · unutterables 1843; 1860 · trews 1847- · sine qua nons 1850 · never-mention-ems 1856 · round-me-houses 1857 · round-the-houses 1858- · unprintables 1860 · stove-pipes 1863 · terminations 1863 · reach-me-downs 1877- · sit-in-'ems/sitinems 1886- · trousies 1886- · strides1889- · rounds 1893 · rammies 1919- · longs 1928-

You can’t help laughing your unmentionables off at the very thought that the prudish Victorians were so easily embarrassed?!? This 19th Century word, and others like “unwhisperables” and “never-mention-ems”, reflects Victorian prudery. Back then, even trousers were considered risque, which is why there were so many synonyms. People didn't want to confront the brutal idea, so found jocular alternatives.

At Fashicon there is nothing to whisper about, we say it like it is, like the fabulous: Farah Vintage Mills Hopsack Trouser, Fila Vintage Frankie Track Pants and Aem'kei Bustor Pants all available from www.fashicon.co.uk. Visit our site today and see what we have for you - we don’t even mind if you mension-em to your friends?!?

What do you call a Penguin in the desert?!?

Lost.

The best place for you to find an Original Penguin is at www.fashicon.co.uk?!?

Not only does Fashicon bring you only the very best Original Penguin clothing, but also at incredible prices?!?

Original Penguin is a brand that well deserves the name, having built up a keen following way back in the Fifties, with golf buddies Arnold Palmer, Bob Hope and Bing Crosby all joining the polo club. Sure enough, Original Penguin has stayed true to its heritage this season, counting Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp among the fans of its on-trend striped polos and assorted retro attire that looks as good whether you're on the course or in the clubhouse. By the way.. you can pick these up at www.fashicon.co.uk?!?

The famous Original Penguin logo has an interesting story behind it. As history tells us, one of Munsingwear’s salesmen spotted a flock of penguins in the window of a New York taxidermist – and on what seems like a lark, bought one of the stuffed birds. And before long, "Pete" the penguin became the official mascot and logo of golf shirts. Its first shirt – the 1955, was an instant golf classic, first to feature an "action gusset" or a ribbed slice of fabric on the underarm to avoid rips during even the most enthusiastic golf swing.

In 2003, an Original Penguin was recreated by a group of people who love great style and smart clothing. Today's fashionistas have evolved this legend and made it their very own. Fashicon is proud to bring Original Penguin to people with such great intellect, style and humour?!?

What's the catch??

If you tell someone that something is free, they immediately start looking for the catch. After all, the words of wisdom “there is no such thing as a free lunch” have been proven true for many people throughout life.

As any economist can tell you, cost really doesn’t only come down to how much money you have to hand over to get something. There are additional costs, like inconvenience and time spent doing something.

Time is a big factor in many free offers. Companies want a bit of your time in exchange for their free products. Have you ever taken advantage of one of those “free weekend vacation” offers in which you received free accommodation in a beach house in exchange for suffering through a long presentation and sales pitch?

Convenience is the other cost involved with many freebies. Time and convenience go hand in hand in some cases – it may not be especially convenient to fill out form after form simply because it is time consuming, but convenience takes another hit from freebies in the form of spam email. Often, signing up for a freebie can land you on a spam email list, and for some people, getting tons of spam is so inconvenient that they would rather pay full price.

At Fashicon we believe that the freebie is in the eye of the beholder. You have to decide what you are willing to put up with in order to get a free product. We respect our customer's time and want to make their shopping experience as convenient as possible! Instead of chasing after freebies, why not visit the Fashicon Sale and grab a bargain while you can.

It's a pleasure to shop at Fashicon for you can rest assured that your privacy will be respected and you will get quality products for your money. Fashicon protects any information that you give us when you use this website. Fashicon is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

Go to www.fashicon.co.uk today, and visit the Fashicon Sale for you will find designer brands at such good prices, you will feel like you've scored a freebie, even better – without the hassle?!?
